February 24, 2021Why Being Bilingual Is a Skill
April 21, 2021One of the most important questions new parents ask us when touring our school is: “What is the best age to start preschool?”
Our answer is always: “Immediately!”
Once your child is 18 months old, it’s time to begin the educational process.
Why so young?
Children are sponges! They absorb everything.
There are many advantages of beginning preschool at an early age. Establishing a consistent structure and routine, and a focus on early education, can inspire a love of learning. Especially when enrolling them at a preschool that teaches children a variety of cognitive, social, emotional, and language skills.
Toddler Incorporation and Self-Worth
After each new day of learning, your child will come home and show his or her learning.
They’ll want to help mommy and daddy in the kitchen—something we greatly encourage!
They’ll start the ‘pick up and put away’ process they learn at preschool–routines including food prep, plating set-up and removal; and cleaning the remains of the meal.
The outgrowth: Your child will feel valued at school and valued at home as a member of the family! Ultimately, your children will wonder how mommy and daddy ever got along without their help!
Toddler Toilet Training
We move toddlers towards the “big kid’ phase—no more diapers!
Our age-range grouping of children—placing our youngest with our oldest–builds desire for toddlers to become independent. Toddlers emulate their elders. If their elders are self-disciplined enough to achieve toilet management, then our youngest will work daily to be just like them.
Sensorial Training
Academically, we teach toddlers via the senses: seeing, touching, feeling, hearing and smelling.
Montessori academic tools are built to discern the differences in everything via your senses! Rough, smooth, ridged, rugged—all help build sensory learning.
English/Spanish Immersion
Our school features a two-teacher, five day per week English/Spanish immersion process. The goal: achieve verbal fluency by the end of Kindergarten!
To begin, we highlight vocabulary by teaching a lesson completely in English one day and the same lesson completely in Spanish the next! Soon, your child will come home and announce new words they learned earlier today: fork, knife, spoon, water, dish….and so on.
Summary
The value of a private preschool education is simple: educated, highly trained and caring teachers; age-range student groupings; incorporating school learning into the home; and teaching bilingual preschool English/Spanish immersion processes to quickly uptick your child’s academic, social, and emotional skill sets. At La Jolla Montessori School, our highly trained teachers focus on observing and evaluating your children from the get-go. They’ll learn their skills and use the Montessori Method: teaching your child individually, at their own speed, and focusing on subjects they enjoy learning.
The best age to start preschool is tomorrow! Together, we’ll teach them to think for themselves; think out of the box; and think about the ‘how and why’ of things. Preschool is where your child’s strengths are discovered and incorporated. That’s why your investment will yield early ‘wins’ followed by our Montessori Edge—building the strongest minds to lead legions of others into Workforce 2040.
