La Jolla Montessori School Focuses …
August 9, 2019An English/Spanish Bilingual Toddler – Kindergarten Program
The core advantage we offer is our English/Spanish bilingual program. Early immersion is an excellent way for children to understand languages and cultures– necessary skills our future leaders will need to navigate.
Our Spanish bilingual program is integrated into the Montessori classroom, so children receive both an authentic English language Montessori education and an equally strong Spanish language program. Each classroom features two teachers–one who only speaks English and one who only speaks Spanish. Thus, children solidify their understanding of both languages while increasing their overall thought processing and skills.
Our loving, enriching and cooperative Spanish bilingual environment will allow your child to develop into a confident, independent and joyful learner.
Our focus is ensuring that children learn ways to ‘do for themselves’ while building respect for others with a joy for learning.
The Montessori Method is about giving children the time and space to practice and master critical concepts. Here, students are observed and given lessons based on their interests. Thus, they work at their own speed to learn concepts, strategies and ultimately solve problems.
Students aged three to five years start each day at 8:30 am. We begin with a three-hour period to work on skills and concepts they are ready for. Teachers give individualized lessons based on your child’s readiness. Your child practices until they have mastered the skill or concept before moving forward to the next lesson. Students may be working on practical life skills, geography, botany, zoology, sensorial materials, reading, writing or mathematical equations based on their abilities and readiness.
During the first classroom session, students are offered school-provided snacks. Once the period is over, children enjoy circle time followed by a half-hour of playground time. Parents provide lunch boxes–which we are happy to reheat–and lunch is eaten before 12:30 pm.
At that time, half-day students go home while full-day students continue with their day. Typically, three year-olds nap in our nap room while four year-olds stay up for another two-hour classroom session. The full-day ends at 3 pm. We offer an after school program that runs until 5:30 pm.
We welcome you to contact us to learn more information about our programs. It is our hope you’ll see how our educated, experienced and worldly teachers will build your child’s self-confidence.
Again, thank you for your interest! We hope you’ll take the next step in your child’s early classroom education as together we build students capable of leading us into the future.
Warmly,
Kelly McFarland, M.Ed., Director
