Montessori Preschool Benefits

October 25, 2019Looking for ways to learn how to prepare and plan for your child’s growth? Plug them into your day! How do we do this? It’s simple…be there for them.
When parents are prepared for their child’s growth, children become prepared for life. When parents learn and use a new role of giving their children stronger confidence and deeper understanding of who they are, both the child and parent benefit. We see this at our English/Spanish immersion program for toddler, primary and Kindergarten students.
Parents benefit today by giving their child time, attention and thinking. And, they’re helping their kids prepare for tomorrow’s elementary school years by making room for them now, sharing space with them, and creating parallel activities together.
A part of including Montessori in the home is not just preparing the child’s bedroom or play space for their own independence; it is helping children to be independent and able to function in the home at large,
How is this done?
For starters, parents need to include their children during each part of the day.
The parent and child should prep and make a dish together. The child can help set the table. Having a stool in the kitchen so they can help prepare food helps your child feel that their family believes she or he is capable of helping. As a result, the child knows she is valued within the family and is able to contribute to it.
Our La Jolla toddler, primary and Kindergarten programs are designed to give children a sense of their place in their world. Children learn that they are skillful and worthy because of how parents include them in the family’s overall day.
One great thing about Montessori schooling is how parents, teachers, and children work together to build a child’s mastery of their environment. Once parents become involved and engaged in their child’s daily development, family time begins. Parents watch their kids achieve potty training, waking up, dressing, eating, brushing and departing the house for school. Then, from playtime to dinner, bath and bedtime—parents will watch their children grow every day by including them in their daily chores.
The Montessori experience is most successful for those children whose home life complements and supports the child’s school experiences. Providing the child with appropriate choices is illustrative of what a parent can do to organize a home life that coordinates with the child’s school experience.
But, be mindful. Including your child into every element of your day means that the child does for themselves. It does not mean that parents do for their kids. When your kids are home, follow-up on their daily training at school. Let them do for themselves.
The Montessori Difference
How can you help your child grow?
Here’s how:
- eat meals together
- read and share traditional stories
- play together because the family that plays together stays together
- let kids be kids
- let kids do for themselves
Most importantly, just be there for them! This is a huge step to help plan for your child’s growth.
